In 1961, Gabriele encounters Luigi on the street—Renzo’s illegitimate son, raised by Flaviut (Leone’s son, now imprisoned) and Federica—and decides to mentor him. At Eloisa’s First Communion, Grandma Nadia finally meets her daughter-in-law Teresa, though Renzo remains absent, still unwilling to face her. Soon after, Teresa accidentally uncovers Renzo’s affair with a journalist from *L’Unità*, whom he’d met earlier. Furious, she storms into the factory and publicly shames him before his colleagues. Renzo, humiliated, breaks his fifteen-year silence and returns to Friuli, where his mother, deeply moved, welcomes him home and sharply rebukes his behavior.
